General Education Requirements for Students Admitted in 2009-10 or before

Note for students admitted in 2009-10 to the Preparatory Year of the 120-credit programs or the dual degree program: The general education (GE) requirements shown below do not apply to this group of students. They are considered as students admitted in 2010-11, and should follow the common core requirement shown here.

Where are these requirements published?

For students admitted in 2009-10 or before (except those mentioned in the above note), the general education (GE) requirements in their program is stated as a set of school-based distributional requirements. They need to take a specified number of GE courses and credits outside their own School. The requirements vary from one program to another.

Students could find out the GE requirements for their program from the current issue of the Undergraduate Curriculum Handbook. The 2011-12 issue is published online at http://www.ust.hk/provost/ug/curriculum_hb/1112hb/index.html.

Completing the requirements

Students complete the GE requirement by selecting courses from the list of Designated General Education Courses, and complete them in the academic year in which they are so designated. GE courses are designated by the University every year. It is possible that a course designated as a GE course in one year may be removed from the list in the following year.

Before course registration, students should check the GEE course lists to ensure that they are selecting current designated GE courses to satisfy the GE requirement. Students may also find out from there whether a course taken in previous years can be used to satisfy the GE requirements.

Other rules also apply. Click here or details.
