Common Core/GE Regulations
Regulations Governing the Common Core Requirements
(Applicable to students admitted in 2010-11 or after)
To fulfill the common core requirements for graduation, students must adhere to the following rules:
- Students must select courses from the common core course lists, and take them in the academic year in which they are listed. They CANNOT use courses that are not included on the list for the specific year to satisfy the common core requirements.
- Some courses may be listed under more than one common core area. Students taking these courses can choose to count them towards one of the listed areas, but not all.
- Common core courses may be used to satisfy other graduation requirements, subject to other restrictions as specified by the student’s major program (if any).
Regulations Governing the General Education Requirements
(Applicable to students admitted in 2009-10 or before)
To fulfill the GE requirements for graduation, students must adhere to the following rules:
- Students must select GE courses from the list of Designated General Education Courses, and take them in the academic year in which they are so designated. They CANNOT use courses that are not included on the list for the specific year to satisfy the GE requirements.
- Some courses may be listed under more than one School/Division. Students taking these courses can choose to count them towards one of the listed Schools/Divisions, but not all.
- Courses that have been used to satisfy other program requirements, even though they are designated as GE courses, CANNOT be used to count toward the GE requirement.
