Common Core Student Recognition AwardThe Common Core Student Recognition Award (“Student Award”) is established to encourage and acknowledge students who demonstrate exceptional achievements and growth in their common core studies. The 2025 Student AwardEligibility The Student Award is open to full-time undergraduate students in any year of study who have completed at least 21 common core credits under the 30-credit common core curriculum at HKUST. Students who are not required to fulfill common core requirements for graduation and previous awardees are not eligible for this award. Application Process Students must submit their applications using a prescribed application form, accompanied by a learning portfolio in English. The portfolio can be presented either as a written document (not exceeding four A4-sized pages) or a video (not exceeding 10 minutes). It should detail the student’s growth and learning experiences from their common core courses. Guidelines for preparing the learning portfolio can be found here. The online application form must be submitted by 19 January 2026 (Monday). Applicants must complete all sections of the form accurately, as any alterations or incomplete submissions may lead to disqualification. Selection Criteria Applications will be evaluated based on how effectively the learning portfolio demonstrates the growth and learning experiences from the common core courses taken by the student, specifically addressing the following three Common Core Program goals:
Selection Process The Student Award will recognize a maximum of 10 awardees. Applications will be considered by the Committee on Undergraduate Core Education (CUCE), on the recommendation of a Selection Committee, which will be established after the close of the application period. The Selection Committee will be responsible for reviewing both the Student Award and the Common Core Teaching Excellence Award (“Teaching Award”). Any person who has a potential conflict of interest with any applicant, as well as any instructor nominated for the Teaching Award, any faculty member involved in the design/teaching of a nominated course, and any nominator of any course for the Teaching Award, must not serve on the Selection Committee. Award Presentation The Student Award will be presented in the name of CUCE to the recipients at the 2025 Common Core Awards presentation ceremony in May 2026.
