CompetencyThe new Common Core Program intentionally includes competencies that are desired for our graduates, which are presented in the form of attributes and skillsets. Competency refers to a student’s ability to master the knowledge and/or skills required to perform in tasks or real-life situations. Essential competencies have been identified and will be taught and/or assessed along with academic knowledge in the three common core groups. These attributes and skillsets are categorized into four broad competencies, which include 15 sub-competencies. Students will be assessed using a set of generic, standardized 5-point rubrics for each sub-competency.
