Introduction to Contemporary Dance and Physical Theatre (GNED 2000A)

This course introduces contemporary dance and physical theatre, as art forms departing from traditions, exploring personal and social meanings, and tapping into personal creativity.

Using texts and videos, students will be able to understand and appreciate the history, theories and a range of practices and perspectives from around the world. Both critical and creative approaches are taken in this course.

Workshops introduce physical, experiential ways of creating with movement. This helps widening your sense of the value of the arts in their lives. The course concludes with a performance of a short dance work-in-progress.

No specific training is needed to enter the course, except the willingness to move and to take on challenges. All undergraduate students interested in contemporary dance are welcome.
